Fuel cell for prosthetics runs on blood
IOL: Science & Tech: "A Japanese research team has developed a fuel cell that runs on blood without using toxic substances, opening the way for use in artificial hearts and other organs.
The biological fuel cell uses glucose, a sugar in blood, with a non-toxic substance used to draw electrons from glucose, said the team led by Matsuhiko Nishizawa, bio-engineering professor at the graduate school of state-run Tohoku University.

Archaeologists find 'Britain's oldest shoe
Archaeologists excavating a quarry in Somerset claim to have found Britain's oldest shoe, believed to be 2,000 years old.
They said the shoe, which was found at Whitehall Quarry, near Wellington, was the equivalent to a modern size 9 or 10, and was so well preserved that the stitching and lace holes were visible in the leather.

Bigfoot Video Footage
Bigfoot: "
Bigfoot
An expedition to confirm the latest ‘Bigfoot’ sighting was announced last night on ‘A Current Affair’ by host Tim Green.
“The hunt is on for ‘Bigfoot’ and ‘A Current Affair’ is leading the way,” says Green on last night’s broadcast. “We are sending an expedition to Manitoba to track Bigfoot.”
After ‘A Current Affair’ unleashed videotape across America of the latest sighting of the infamous Bigfoot, the scientific, zoological and journalistic communities have united in the excitement of discovery -- and now in an expedition to confirm the existence of this entity."
All I can say is I'm not impressed.

Earth Has Become Brighter, but No One Is Sure Why - New York Times
Earth Has Become Brighter, but No One Is Sure Why - New York Times: "Reversing a decades-long trend toward 'global dimming,' Earth's surface has become brighter since 1990, scientists are reporting today.
The brightening means that more sunlight - and thus more heat - is reaching the ground. That could partly explain the record-high global temperatures reported in the late 1990's, and it could accelerate the planet's warming trend."

Butterfly's Navigation Secret Revealed in Flight Simulator - Yahoo! News
Butterfly's Navigation Secret Revealed in Flight Simulator - Yahoo! News: "The monarch butterfly is known to use the angle of sunlight as a navigational guide on its annual fall migration from across North America to Mexico. But how it processes the information has been a mystery.
Now scientists have used a flight simulator and peeked inside the butterfly brain to learn that their light-detecting sensors are hard-wired to their circadian clocks, allowing the creatures to compensate for the time of day."

Wired News: Scientists: Life on Mars Likely
Wired News: Scientists: Life on Mars Likely: "Not so long ago it was unthinkable for respectable scientists to talk about life on Mars. Such talk was best left to X-Files fans. But no longer.
Evidence is building to suggest biological processes might be operating on the red planet, and life on Mars, many scientists believe, is now more a likelihood than merely a possibility."
